MAN ON THE VERGE OF BEING CURED OF HIV

A 44years old British man with HIV might become the first in the world to be permanently cured of HIV disease after undergoing a pioneering new therapy designed to eradicate the virus.
News of the man's encouraging results was announced in the Sunday Times. Scientists from Oxford University, KCL, Imperial, UCL and Cambridge University trialled the therapy on 50 people living with HIV.
The therapy is the first of its kind created to track down and destroy HIV in every part of the body — including in the dormant cells that evade current treatments. If successful it offers hope of an irreversible cure for HIV and could save the NHS…
The first of 50 people have completed a trial of the ambitious treatment, designed by scientists and doctors from five of Britain’s leading universities as reported by SUNDAY TIMES.

It was gathered that following the treatment, tests showed the virus was undetectable in the blood of one of the patients, but does not necessarily mean he has been cured of HIV.
The research and test will continue to be carried out on the British Patient for the next five years during which he will still remain on anti-retroviral therapy.
