12,808 BAGS UNIVERSITY OF BENIN DEGREES , DIPLOMA




A total of 12,808 graduands would be awarded various academic degrees of the University of Benin in the 2016 convocation of the institution.

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Faraday Orumwense, disclosed this at a media briefing heralding the convocation, which will hold between Wednesday, December 23 to Saturday, December 26, 2016.

The vice chancellor expressed delight that 61 out of the graduands bagged first class honours degree.

A further breakdown of the graduands showed that 154 bagged Doctorate Degrees, 2,531 secured Masters Degrees, 233 got Post Graduate Diploma, 9,281 bagged Undergraduate Degrees, 95 received Diploma and 514 unclassified.

Orumwense disclosed that the immediate past vice chancellor of the school, Prof Osayuki Oshodin, would be inducted into the school’s hall of fame for his hard work, innovation and contributions to the University.

On a feat achieved by the University, the Vice Chancellor said, “Of interest to the general public is the admission of the first set of graduands of the National Institute of Legislative Studies, Abuja, into the degree programme of the University of Benin.

“This programme is borne out of a collaborative effort between the University and the National Assembly and aimed at raising the bar in legislative drafting and proceedings.”

He further disclosed that the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), will deliver the 42nd UNIBEN convocation lecture.

He gave the name of a former Minister of State for Works, Engineer Chris Ogiemwonyi, as the person who will deliver the University’s Founder’s Day Lecture.

He said the choice of the former Lagos State governor and the former minister was apt saying the duo were distinguished alumnus of the University.
