The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, weekend commissioned a modern three-classroom block with teachers offices built through her non-governmental organisation, the Vicar Hope Foundation, for Ohanze Isiahia Community School in Obingwa Local Government Area.
This, she said was to promote conducive teaching and learning environment for pupils in the state public schools. According to her, the Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration is determined to give education its proper place and make it accessible to all Abians and called on parents to give their children formal education before sending them to learn skills for their total development.
Mrs Ikpeazu assured the people that the dividends of democracy would get to all and sundry while charging them to continually praying for the smooth running of the administration. Earlier while visiting Mgboko/Akpugo Umuoria Community School to monitor the Abia State Primary School Free Meal Programme in the school she had also donated learning desks to the school, stating that the visit is to enable her get first hand information about the problems of the schools in terms of infrastructure and personnel. In his remarks, a former Deputy Governor to who is a native of Ohanze Community, Chief Eric Acho Nwakanma, commended the giant strides of the wife of the Governor and described her as a proud daughter of the community and stressed the need to support her.
Also speaking earlier, the commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Chinedu Brown, thanked Mrs Ikpeazu for giving hope to the less privileged, widows and promoting all issues related to women. In their speeches, the chairman of Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, Chief Kenechukwu Nwosu, Head teachers of Mgboko/Akpugo Umuoria Community Primary School, Mrs. Mercy Ekpendu and Ohanze Isiahia Community School, Mrs. Charity Onwubiko expressed happiness on the administration’s effort towards education in the state.
