Lagos State will provide the 160,000 furniture deficit in public schools by 2017. The state Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, who is also the state Commissioner for Education, made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday.

“The last statistics for furniture in our public schools shows that we have about 160,000 furniture deficit. “Already, we are working on 40,000; by the grace of God, and given the approval of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, we will have another round of 40, 000 by the first quarter of next year.

“It is my hope that by the end of 2017, all the 160,000 furniture deficit would have been taken care of,” she said. Adebule said that providing the furniture was part of the state government’s efforts to bridge infrastructure gap, provide instructional tools and improve schooling environment. Adebule urged school managers – principals and head teachers – to ensure proper maintenance of the furniture, when supplied. “I appeal that as the new model chairs and tables are being provided, you need to monitor and oversee how many furniture are supplied in your schools so that our labour will not be in vain,” Adebule said.
