LAGOS CANCELS PLACEMENT TEST RESIT
Pupils who fail the entrance examination to public secondary schools in Lagos State will no longer be allowed to resit the test.
The state government has said that the entrance examination is compulsory for all pupils in the state, regardless of whether they want to attend public or private secondary schools.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, said this in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs of the ministry, Mr. Adesegun Ogundeji, on Thursday.
According to Odeyemi, the decision to put an end to the decades old policy came about because many candidates who were supposed to resit the test did not show up, despite the resources invested in it by the state government. He added that any candidate who failed the examination would be required to sit for the examination the following year.
He said, “It is very important to impress it on parents and teachers to groom their children properly for the examination in order to ensure success as re-sits of the failed papers have been cancelled.”
While announcing that the 2017 Placement Test, which qualifies pupils for placement in public secondary schools, would come up in July, Odeyemi urged schools and parents to ensure that their pupils register early, adding that unregistered candidates would not be allowed to access examination centres.
He urged all pupils attending private and public schools to register for the test as it is the only requirement for awarding the First School Leaving Certificate.
The Permanent Secretary said the state had deployed Optical Mark Recognition machines to emboss pictures of candidates on the registration cards to prevent representation by proxy. He added that the OMR machines would randomise questions and answers to prevent cheating and brand question papers per candidate to discourage swapping.
