The University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre (DLC) has restated its commitment to providing and improving the standard of education, in the effort to contribute to development at a national level.
This formed the basis of the comments at the handing over and inauguration of the new directorate of the DLC of the University of Ibadan, under the leadership of Professor Oyesoji Aremu, held at the Professor Isaac Folorunso Hall, DLC CBT centre, Ajibode extension, University of Ibadan.
Minister, Molete Baptist Church, Ibadan, Reverend (Dr) Edward K. Alabi, in his exhortation, urged the new director to embrace the position with discipline and humility, and prayed for God to equip him not to fail.
“Today, you are a product of a structured succession. It is my prayer that you will replicate able leaders to equip, strengthen and fortify people for leadership because there is no success without succession. I challenge you to sieze every moment because the time to make a difference is now. There are greater heights and opportunities for you. Be a magnetic leader that is blessed and who, will in turn, bless others,” Reverend Alabi stated.
Reverend Alabi also encouraged Professor Aremu to makenimpacy such that even the bun born generation would benefit from positively.
The immediate past director of the DLC, Professor Bayo Okunade, in his address, highlighted the achievements of the DLC, after which he formally handed over leadership of the DLC directorate to Professor Aremu.
Professor Aremu, in his address, while reiterating his commitment to improving the standard of education through the DLC, expressed appreciation to God for the grace to take up leadership of the centre, and called for the support of staff to take the centre to greater heights.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka, who was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor AB. Ekanola, congratulated the immediate past administration under Professor Okunade’s leadership, for a successful tenure and urged the new administration to take up the task of moving the DLC forward, in line with the high expectations of the University of Ibadan.
According to the VC, UI expects to see an improvement in the quality of graduates from the DLC through enhanced teaching and provision of quality materials.
The event featured prayer sessions by the wife of the President, Nigerian Baptist Convention and National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor (Mrs) Toyin Ayokunle; Minister, Jubilee Life Baptist Church, Reverend Tunde Babatunde, as well as a tree planting exercise
