Nyesom Wike Rivers state governor has directed the ministry of education to issue a 21-day ultimatum to operators of unregistered private schools to get approval or face immediate closure by the government.
The state commissioner for education Professor Kaniye Ebeku gave the warning during a meeting with members of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Rivers state on Wednesday, April 27, at his office, Professor Ebeku said the state will no longer allow any illegal school to operate after May 17, 2016.
The commissioner also told journalists after the meeting that Governor Wike has approved the collection of sanctioned charges from pupils in model schools to enable heads of schools maintain good sanitation.
Ebeku emphasized that the basic requirement to start a private school includes acquisition of at least four plots of land, quality teachers, good facilities amongst others.
