The monthly Seminar Series of the Faculty of Science will hold on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 12 noon in the LT 018 Faculty of Science, University of Lagos, Akoka.
The
Seminar will feature Dr (Mrs.) Olayide Obidi. The Speaker has twelve
years of teaching and research experience in his area of specialization
which is Microbiology. She will speak on the topic “Combating Paint
Microbes: The Nano Option”.
The
event is open to all academic staff, graduate students, final year
students and other members of the community who are interested in the
advancement of scientific knowledge.
Dr
Olayide Obidi obtained First Degree in Botany and Microbiology from
Lagos State University in 1993, Master’s and Doctoral Degrees in
Chemistry in 1997 and 2008 respectively from the University of Ibadan
and University of Lagos.
She
has done collaborative works with industries such as Chemical and
Allied Products, the makers of Dulux Paints, Emerald Energy Resources,
and Infinity Paints International. Prior to this, she had served as
Microbiologist at the United African Company Pharmaceutical and Personal
Products Nigeria Limited.
Dr Obidi’s area
of specialization is Microbiology, with specific interest in Paint
Technology. She has supervised over 60 undergraduate, several
postgraduate students and currently has one Ph.D. student.
She is an alumna
of the Iowa State University, United States of America where she had
her post-doctoral training in 2013. Also, awarded the prestigious
International Fellowship of the American Association of University
Women. Recipient of the University of Lagos Learned Conference Grant,
Society for Applied Microbiology President Grant (UK), Dow Coating
Materials Grant (USA) and University of Lagos Research Grant.
She has
presented several papers at both local and international conferences and
published extensively in peer reviewed journals. Dr. (Mrs.) Olayide
Obidi is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Biological
Sciences and Bio-conversation, a publication of the Centre for Research
and Innovation, Minna, Niger State and a reviewer of other International
Journals.
She has
served the University in various capacities including Course Adviser,
Departmental Lecture Time Table Officer, Examination Officer, Project
and Seminar Coordinator, Departmental Secretary, Departmental Servicom
Officer & Departmental Results Processing Officer.
She has
also served as member of various faculty committees such as Faculty of
Science Committee on Biological Garden Re-organization as well as
Faculty of Science Environmental and Sanitation Committee.
Beyond lecturing, Dr. (Mrs.) Olayide Obidi enjoys cooking and playing of musical instruments.
